Decrease inflammation by suppression of migration of polymorph nuclear leucocytes and reversal of increased capillary permeability suppresses normal immune response.

Treatment of a variety of oral diseases of allergic, inflammatory or autoimmune origin.

Systematically used for chronic swelling, hematologic, neoplastic and autoimmune diseases.

May be used in the management of cerebral edema, septic shock as a diagnostic agent and antiemetic.

It is also used in treating alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

Active untreated infections, used on ophthalmic viral, fungal or tuberculosis disease of the eye.

Corticosteroids should be used with caution in the presence of heart failure, recent myocardial infarction and hypertension or in patients with diabetes mellitus and in epilepsy. It is also contraindicated in patients with glaucoma, hypothyroidism, liver failure, osteoporosis, peptic ulceration, and psychosis or in renal impairment.

Corticosteroids are also contraindicated in acute infections.

Reports of acute toxicity and/or death following over dosage of glucocorticoids are rare in the event of over dosage no specific antidote is available.

Treatment is supportive and symptomatic.

There may be an increased incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration when corticosteroids are given with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.

Response to anticoagulants may be altered and the requirement or antidiabetics and anti hypertensive may be increased.

TREATMENT OF ADVERSE EFFECTS:

Treatment is symptomatic. The drug dose is either reduced or the drug is slowly withdrawn.

For oral administration it is used in usual initial dose of 0. 5 mg to 10 mg daily in divided doses mostly three times a day.

Dexamethasone tablets should be protected from light, Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
