CEFTRAN FORTE INJ.

Ceftran Forte is used to treat a variety of moderate to severe bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Intra-abdominal infections
  • Meningitis
  • Septicemia
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Gonococcal infections

It is administered via intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection.


Adults:

  • Total daily dose ranges from 1.5 g to 3 g, corresponding to combinations of ceftriaxone and sulbactam (e.g., 1 g ceftriaxone / 0.5 g sulbactam to 2 g ceftriaxone / 1 g sulbactam).
  • The total dose of sulbactam should not exceed 4 g per day

Pediatric Patients:

  • Neonates (up to 14 days): 20–50 mg/kg once daily.
  • Infants and children (15 days to 12 years): 20–80 mg/kg once daily.
  • For children weighing 50 kg or more, the usual adult dosage applies.
  • Intravenous doses of at least 50 mg/kg bodyweight should be administered by infusion over at least 30 minutes.

  • Allergy Alert: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins.
  • Neonatal Use: Not recommended for hyperbilirubinemic neonates, especially premature infants.
  • Drug Interactions: Avoid mixing with calcium-containing solutions (e.g., Ringer’s lactate) due to the risk of ceftriaxone-calcium salt precipitation.
  • Renal and Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution; dosage adjustments may be necessary.
  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Generally considered safe, but should be used under medical supervision.

  • Common: Injection site reactions (swelling, redness, pain), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache.
  • Serious: Severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis), liver dysfunction, blood disorders (e.g., anemia, leukopenia), renal dysfunction.
  • Gastrointestinal: May lead to antibiotic-associated diarrhea, including Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
  • Other: Potential for oral or vaginal yeast infections with prolonged use.

  • Preparation: Reconstitute the powder with sterile water for injection.
  • Administration: For IV use, administer over at least 30 minutes.
  • Storage: Store below 25°C; use reconstituted solution immediately.
